In February, 1916, 7th Cornwall Light Infantry of 61 Brigade 20th Division, moved north from France to the Ypres salient. On 18th February, 61 Brigade took over part of the line and 7th Cornwall moved to the canal Bank. 10 days later 7th Cornwall took over the front line where the enemy were very active , sending over a constant steam of trench mortars and aerial torpedoes. The few days that they spent in the trenches here resulted in the deaths of 5 men one of whom was James Woods on 29th February. |
